We are overly reliant on the Internet:

  • for entertainment

  • for knowledge

  • for distractions

  • for instant gratification

  • for comfort

  • for work

  • for friendships

  • for love

But I wonder what would happen if the Internet disappeared out of the blue.

Would we look around and recognise the “moments of beauty in the everyday”? (Superstore reference)

Would we use the landline to stay connected to one another in the prolonged silence?

Would we venture into nature and replace the VR scenes with the real thing?

Sure, airports would be extremely overwhelmed, but imagine that first trip abroad. Without any wi-fi, any social media channels to browse or update, or any search engines to satisfy your constant hunger for answers, you would be truly in the present moment.

So next time you find yourself in a cycle of closing and reopening mobile apps, browser tabs or even your emails, think of the energy you spend in your mind consuming random information or creating random scenarios opposed to creating structured action to live the life you desire (or simply enjoying the now with the people around you).
