We rely on coping mechanisms when we resist the present moment.
We tend to resist the present moment along with our current circumstances when we carry burdens of the past with us. These burdens, whether they are childhood traumas or the inability to face our own shadow self, cloud our judgement and make it difficult to imagine a future that is any different to all the βbittersweet disappointmentsβ weβve faced so far.
And why do we tend to get disappointed in life? Because we build up expectations in our mind to prevent us from getting disappointed β I know, itβs ironic β and then those expectations naturally never quite meet reality as it is, for better or for worse.
Coping mechanisms, in other words, make it easier to live with the disappointments.
But in reality⦠disappointments are all stories that we create.
As the creators, we also have the power to re-write those stories and allow for the happy or alternative ending to wash away the sorrows.
To let go of our coping mechanisms is to learn to trust β ourselves, the process, the Universe. Itβs a mindset shift!
