We tend to play mind games with each other when we’re unsure if we can trust one another.

What are mind games? Here are a couple of examples:

  • Circling around the truth but never quite being direct with what we want to express.

  • Coming up with questions to indirectly ask what we really want to know.

  • Lying about what we know or how we feel because we fear conflict.

Playing mind games might feel like a safe way to “test the waters” with new and even existing connections, but in reality it’s a coping mechanism to protect you from getting hurt.

If you find yourself trying to avoid certain topics in conversations with others, this is an opportunity for you to connect on a deeper level with yourself, so that you can overcome a limiting belief or a traumatic trigger. This will help you express yourself more freely and ultimately bond with more people!
