10 Everyday Holistic Tips For Healing Your Body

Spoiler alert: The body can heal itself 🍏

The body can heal itself, but not while you’re applying “poison”.

What is poison to the body? Anything that disrupts the natural processes or destroys the natural environments for cells.

Here are some examples of food (ingredients) that can be considered poison to the body, especially when applied in huge doses frequently:

  • sugar

  • alcohol

  • highly processed food

  • artificial colouring in food

  • chemicals in the water

  • pills with numerous side effects

And the list goes on!

Here are 10 holistic tips that you can apply every day to heal your body and support your body’s self-healing processes.

1. ADD SALT TO WATER FOR DEEPER BODY HYDRATION

Everything starts with water!

Your body is 90% made up of water.

The best way to supply your body with the minerals it needs is to add a little bit of salt (Celtic Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt) to your daily water intake.

You get bonus points if you talk to your water!

Why?

Intentions create our reality, whether you realise it or not. When you set the intention to have a positive mindset, everything that happens to you will be filtered through the positive lens of your mind.

The way you decide to live your life is the way you’ll experience life.

The same logic goes to your relationship with the world, from other people and animals to water and items.

You can approach everyone and everything with a sense of awe and gratitude or take them for granted. It’s entirely up to you!

The way you decide to live your life is the way you’ll experience life. And that’s the best way to explain living holistically — everything starts with you, your intentions and your actions.

And since you’re 90% made up of water, your relationship with water says a lot about your relationship with you!

2. SKIP COFFEE FOR THE FIRST 60-90 MINUTES OF THE DAY FOR BETTER GUT HEALTH

Your stomach is your second brain.

When you irritate the second brain, you irritate the first brain, too.

Everything’s connected!

So when you consume caffeine “too early” for your digestive system to handle the pressure, you create pressure in your nervous system, which results in higher blood pressure, stress, anxiety, inability to stay still or calm, and fluctuations in your mood.

Delaying your first coffee for the day has numerous benefits, including appreciating your cup of Joe with more mindfulness!

3. APPLY GINGER + LEMON AS A DAILY GUT HEALTH & METABOLISM STABILISER

Proactively looking after cleansing your body and strengthening your immune system will do wonders for you in the long run.

Nothing supports your gut health like ginger and lemon — well, maybe lime!

One freshly brewed ginger tea with a slice of lemon daily will support the body’s natural ability to cleanse and heal itself.

There are, of course, many ways you can add ginger and lemon to your daily diet, including:

  • freshly squeezed lemon juice (lime works too)

  • adding ginger or lemon to a smoothie

  • squeezing lemon in a cup of hot water

  • squeezing lemon as a salad dressing

Your daily food schedule should include intervals where your stomach is able to take a break from the heavy processing. Adding teas and healthy juices ahead of those intervals will assist your metabolism!

4. EAT ONION + GARLIC WHEN YOU FEEL UNDER THE WEATHER

Natural medicine is the best medicine. Let nature help your recovery!

Holistic healing, of course, takes more patience and investment than traditional medicine that gets you “up and running” in a matter of days or even hours.

But what’s that thing that most pills have? That’s right, side effects!

The goal of holistic living is to strengthen your immune system.

Garlic and onion have antibacterial and anti‐inflammatory properties, which makes them perfect allies for your body in times of viruses!

The goal of holistic living is to strengthen your immune system, so that your protection is greater than the many attacks of the outside world.

The food you consume is important, because food can affect the immune system from within. But just like food can corrupt your immune system, food can also improve it!

Garlic and onion, together with lemon and ginger, are amazing additions to your daily food intake when you feel under the weather.

5. SLOW DOWN YOUR BREATHING TO GET THE MOST OF YOUR PARASYMPATHETIC SYSTEM

To leave the “flight or flight” of survival mode, you need to feel safe in your current environment.

If your body feels restless or your mind overwhelmed with thoughts, you’re still living in survival mode, even if there’s no threat around you.

Biologically speaking, caffeine won’t help much when you’re going through a stressful period, even if you connect its aroma and taste to productivity.

In order to restore your inner balance and return to a healthy operational state, it’s important to “slow down” with your lifestyle.

Breathing techniques, meditation, journaling and walking are great ways to support your nervous system during times of stress.

Holistic healing isn’t just about what you eat. It’s also about how you live!

6. REMOVE SUGAR FROM YOUR DIET TO GET A NATURAL, PERMANENT ENERGETIC BOOST

We know that sugar is addictive. This is why sugar’s been added to most things you see in the supermarket, so that you get “obsessed” with certain products and keep buying them for longer periods of time before you get bored with them.

Simply put, sugar does more damage than good.

Removing sugar from your diet is transformational!

Not only will you feel more energy, but you will look and feel better.

Sugar is linked to increased levels of inflammation in the body, especially when consumed daily in high quantities. Since sugar’s in most of the food we consume today, unless we become conscious consumers and inspect everything we eat, sugar’s already being consumed in high quantities.

Try it!

Cut out sugar for a week and watch how your life transforms.

Yes, you will experience sugar cravings. Your stomach will beg you for your daily dose (spoiler alert: it might be parasites). Your mind will experience the withdrawal symptoms in the form of drowsiness, confusion and lack of motivation.

But once you power through the metamorphosis, you will discover that your life is so much better without sugar in it!

7. CUT DOWN OR COMPLETELY REMOVE ALCOHOL FROM YOUR LIFE TO DETOX YOUR OPERATIONAL SYSTEM

The science has given its verdict: alcohol is poison to your body, because it literally destroys your cells.

Why is there so much marketing spent in promoting alcohol then?

Well, alcohol is good for the economy.

Anything that creates health conditions that medicine can help fix (while creating more health conditions with its many side effects) means you are going to spend your money to boost the economy, because naturally you want to stay alive and live healthy.

Alcohol is an artificial painkiller for your emotional and mental health.

What you forget cannot haunt you and hurt you, right?

Using alcohol as a coping mechanism slowly but surely destroys your relationship with your body, mind, heart and soul.

The absence of alcohol brings a surge of energy, just like when you remove sugar from your diet, but it also engages different parts of your brain and allows you to create some amazing connections with others that are no longer based on your shared traumas and reliving the past.

The absence of alcohol in your diet helps you remember who you are and why you’re here: what your goals and dreams are, so you can accomplish them surrounded by like-minded people!

8. ADD DAILY WALKS AND STRETCHES TO HELP MOVE ANY BLOCKED ENERGY AND PAIN IN YOUR BODY

Everything is energy.

Emotions are energy in motion.

Daily movements allow us to keep the motion intact, so that we prevent any blockages in our physical, mental or emotional body.

When we move our body, we encourage the energy to flow with more ease, even if we’re not ready yet to explore our emotions.

Sometimes we approach inner work from outside (movement, laughter, exercise) and other times we approach it straight from within (meditation, journal, forgiveness).

What’s important is to keep the energy moving and “shake off” any lingering negative energy as soon as you notice you’re in a bad mood.

While all emotions are natural expressions of our interaction with the world, being in a bad mood is unnatural, even if society has normalised it as part of “the real world”.

It is not.

And neither’s bad mental health.

We are all sensitive, creative beings with A LOT to say, think and give to the world. Give yourself the breathing room to experience everything, but always aim to be in a good mood throughout the day!

9. ADD A DAILY CALMING TEA TO YOUR REGIME

Keeping your nervous system in a state of calm is key to self-healing.

Self-regulation starts with nourishing your gut health and your nervous system.

The rest is having a positive attitude and enjoying the process!

Calming teas are perfect additions to your daily regime, whether you choose to apply them at the start of the day, during your lunch break or just before you go to bed.

Mint, rose and lavender are some of the more common calming teas, but if you explore the world of herbs, you’ll find many that can support your healing journey as a daily supplement.

10. UPGRADE YOUR COOKING OILS WITH HEALTHY OPTIONS

The healthier you eat, the more energy you will have to accomplish your goals and create amazing memories with the people you love.

Don’t underestimate the power of upgrading one small ingredient in your kitchen that you use daily: such as your cooking oil.

There’s a lot of research done around what’s the healthiest cooking oil and you will discover many verdicts, but one thing’s for sure – vegetable oil is NOT healthy for you.

If you’re still cooking with vegetable oil, replacing it with a healthier alternative will 100% make your daily food consumption healthier.

Olive oil and coconut oil are two healthy options that have been made more mainstream in the past decade. Sesame oil and avocado oil offer a different taste while preserving the healthy element to your daily food preparation.

As always, the advice would be to do your own research and experiment to find what suits your taste preferences and health needs best!
