It doesn’t matter which generation you’re part of, there will always be people who were born before you, with you and after you. And so, there will always be a degree of separation between the way things were done before your time, during your time and after your time.

Old ways of doing things, new ways of thinking, innovation putting a creative spin on the old plays or completing reinventing the games. It’s a never-ending cycle. It’s evolution.

One person says “I think I can do this better” and in doing so he or she breaks the cycle, so that a new cycle can be created that will advance the previous one.

Funnily enough, one of the most famous cocktails in the world is the “Old Fashioned”. Is it good because it’s a tribute to the old style of making drinks? Or is it good because it has a modern spin on it? It doesn’t really matter. We drink it because we like the taste.

The same logic can be applied to the lessons each generation carries. There are lessons that the older generations can certainly teach the new generations, and vice versa. The goal is to remain open to learning from one another and practice curiosity over judgement.
