We love to be right about things.
“I told you so” resonates with us much stronger than “I was wrong”. And so we’re more likely to proudly remember all the times we were right about situations or people. It boosts our ego.
But being wrong is important.
Being wrong means that we are open to learning new information and learning from our mistakes.
Being wrong means that we are willing to take risks and venture out of our comfort zone.
Being wrong and owning up to our mistakes means that we have a big capacity for empathy, integrity and a growth-mindset.
To make mistakes is human. To try to avoid mistakes at all costs is not only impossible, but it adds unnecessary internal pressure and it impacts your relationships with others.
Be kind to the version of you that was wrong – they didn’t know better, but now you do!
