I heard a quote this week that made a lot of sense as to why collecting data is important.
“The more you know about someone, the more you can help them.”
But this logic doesn’t just apply to others.
The more you know about yourself, the more you can help yourself.
The question is… are you collecting any data? How often do you collect it? Do you even know what to look for?
Journaling is a popular method for de-stressing, because you allow whatever’s going on in your head or heart to be poured onto the blank pages, so that you can start to make the connections needed to understand the big internal picture.
Conversations help us share what’s bothering us with the hope that it might make sense to others, even if we can’t figure out why we’re bothered by something or why we desire something.
It’s not selfish to take time to help yourself first. Because once you do, you can help others by being a great listener, a great problem-solver or even a great partner on the dance floor – after all, sometimes all we need is a day of dancing and laughter!
