Music has a transformational power.

A single song can can help us:

  • elevate our energy levels

  • release negative emotions

  • regulate our mood

  • quiet down the mind

  • travel back in time

  • imagine the future

Not all songs are equal, of course.

And just like we change continuously, our music taste changes with us, too.

A band you enjoyed as a teenager might not be at all what you prefer to listen to today. Yet if you were to play an album you used to love, you’re bound to experience the feeling of “walking down memory lane”.

To answer the question “How much would you pay to see your favourite band?” (and you can replace “see your favourite band” with anything really), it’s useful to start with tackling these two questions first:

  1. What do I need right now?

  2. What do I actually like today?

The first question will give you an idea of your current emotional or mental state. For example, you might need more rest and more silence, or more excitement and more spontaneity.

The second question will make you examine your first choices and help you explore other possibilities. For example, if you have spent every summer holiday in the past 5 years going to the same lake house, you might find that you now you want to spend time by the sea or up in the mountain.

We collect random pieces of information about ourselves as we grow and evolve. But we don’t actually let go of the past, not like we’re supposed to at least. So we carry all of this trivia about who we are and who we are not, which in the long run limits our potential.

Our perceived identity becomes static, instead of it being constantly evolving.

When there’s no space for new information, new experiences and new understanding, we block our own growth. We stand in our own way of flowing with the universe.

So the band you’re willing to pay £££+ today might be a different one than it would have been 10 years ago or 10 years from now. Life’s about adapting to all the changes (internally and externally), not clinging to a particular period or place. That’s when you discover the magic of living in complete alignment with your authentic self.
