You’ve heard this before, but I’ll say it again: where your attention goes is where your energy goes. If your energy is constantly being thrown in multiple directions, it no longer flows naturally – it is being syphoned by the outside world.
How is this relevant to stress?
According to the World Health Organisation, “Stress is your body's response to anything that requires attention or action.”
We live in a world that is designed to keep our attention hostage to distractions, coming from all directions, or rather – all devices. This is your phone, your laptop, your TV, your Alexa or Siri, and every social media platform that is using the technology to keep you distracted.
How you deal with stress is really how you deal with distractions. If you bring your attention back to the present moment and be in a state of flow, then the stress goes away.
In other words, stress is a consequence of living everywhere but the present moment, especially for long periods of time.
