Most of us have a breaking point before we exhaust ourselves to the point of no quick recovery. This breaking point is also known as “burnout”.

To avoid reaching or surpassing your breaking point, it’s important to recognise the signals that your mind and body will send you to remind you to take care of yourself.

On a mental level, the signals can range from lack of focus, making mistakes, talking really fast (or really loud), getting irritated with people, or spending more time in solitude to get the job done.

On a physical level, the signals can include fatigue, lack of appetite or increased appetite for fast food, dizziness, dehydration, blurry vision, lack of movement, interrupted sleep or insomnia, and a weakened immune system prone to catching colds.

How many of those signals have you received recently? How many of them do you need to receive in order to pause work and nurture yourself?

Everything starts with you. When your health is on the line, mental or physical, your work will suffer too.
