When emotions get trapped in the body, they affect how we communicate with others and how we go through life, often blocking us from truly experiencing joy, love and peace (all the good stuff).

Anger, fear, shame, sadness and grief are some of the more negative and persistent emotions to remain in our body long after the events that initially caused them.

The body remembers, even if you’ve forgotten the traumatic memories. You might have never even consciously registered them as triggering, threatening or painful to your whole being.

The good news is that the body also has the ability to heal itself, as long as you’re open and willing to release that which no longer serves you. Some of the methods used to release trauma stored in the body include breathing, meditation, movement, yoga, tai chi and dancing.

Here’s a map to where unprocessed emotions are felt in the body.
