Looking after yourself should be the easiest task in the world, right?
But…
After years of consuming marketing messages, opinions from friends and family, and all kinds of research about well-being, it can become an impossible mission to figure out how to apply proper self-care.
For me, self-care is:
A cup of coffee in the morning
Dancing in my room like no one’s watching
A long walk in town or in nature
An hour spent reading
Discovering new artists or going to gigs
Every minute spent in meditation
Laughter
No matter what self-care means to you, it’s important that you actually make time for it.
What’s the difference between self-investment and self-care?
They are very similar. While self-investments are about developing your potential, self-care is about knowing who you are and what you need in order to feel at peace in your own mind and body. Self-care is about learning to be happy with wherever you are in life today. Self-investments are about knowing that every day you are becoming a better version of yourself.
Why is self-care so important?
You can’t give to the world if your own cup’s empty. If you have big dreams, in particular, you have to start with yourself (leading by example).
How do you create a self-care routine?
I’m sure books can be written simply about this point! The goal is to get so familiar with who you are and what you need that you can easily balance between a fixed schedule and fluid spontaneity as a way to remain in the present moment for as long as you can. Until then, book your appointments and practice sessions in advance and stick to the commitments.
