One of the most challenging things to do in today’s world is to find the time to rest and reset.
Rest is often synonymous with activities that allow us to take a break from thinking, such as binge-watching, social media scrolling, spending time with friends and even working out. These activities, however, still keep the nervous system active, which in the long run keeps us in a perpetual loop of getting hooked onto distractions and seeking for the next thing to accomplish from our to-do list.
The most effective ways to rest and reset your nervous system is through grounding practices, such as meditation, sleeping, breathing exercises, spending time in nature and somatic movement. Not only do they bring us back to the present moment, but they strengthen our immune system and senses, so that we can truly experience and appreciate life.
When your nervous system has been over-working for a long time, getting back to grounding will feel like a “mission impossible” – but that’s precisely the key to unlocking more of your authentic self.
