Did you know that Serena Williams bounces her tennis ball 5 times before her first serve?
Many athletes believe in the power of rituals before an important game.
It could be a sequence of five actions , but in those five actions your mind, body, soul and spirit get fully aligned to assist you in delivering a stellar performance.
Rituals, just like habits, have a grounding effect. They help us cross an invisible bridge to the land where we can do the work in our most present state.
In other words, we perform rituals to tame our emotions and ground our energy as a way to smoothly transition from thinking or wandering mode to operating or acting mode.
With our senses activated, we can enter a flow state with more ease.
Whether you’re performing rituals before a recurring habit (exercise, writing, planning) or before an important milestone (game, presentation, event), they act as a hug for your nervous system.
Not only do rituals have a calming effect on your emotions and a grounding effect for your energy, they help you “get out of your head”, so that you can step into your full power.
If you’re struggling to keep up with a habit, add a ritual just before you perform it. Try it for a week and see if it makes a difference.
What’s the main ingredient to build a ritual? Movement!
Your next ritual can include:
dancing
walking
jumping
tapping
cartwheeling
running
Do you have your own ritual(s) for success?
