Peak performance is “performance of a task at the optimum level of an individual’s physical abilities, mental capabilities or both.” (source)
To reach peak performance is to be fully aware of your strengths and weaknesses, and how to navigate throughout the day using the best of both.
Peak performance is about:
Committing to something bigger than you (be it a person or a mission)
Being honest with yourself and others about everything that matters (feelings, thoughts, limitations, fears, and even doubts)
Taking full ownership of the tasks that are up to you
Doing the work and honouring your progress even on days when you’re feeling off
Believing you have the power to make a difference by being yourself while striving to be your best version
An athlete committed to breaking a world record will spend every conscious minute of his life in pursuit of the goal. A single mother raising two children will move mountains to keep them safe, happy and loved.
The power to rise above our circumstances is available to us at all times.
So, I ask you again, what’s keeping you from peak performance?
Fear?
The ego is getting a signal that you’re about to leave the comfort zone. What lies beyond the comfort zone? Changes. Unpredictability. Growth. When the ego starts acting up, you know you’re moving in the right direction.
Doubt?
Past experiences have shaped your expectations as you perceive them as the ultimate truth. When we face one too many rejections in life, for example, our go-to expectation when we apply for new opportunities or meet new people is that we will be rejected.
The everyday chaos?
It’s your priorities and lack of planning that are getting in the way. If you don’t make time for your goals, someone else will. When we abandon our dreams and recognise others are actively chasing theirs, we begin to feel regret and think “It’s too late for me”.
Let me say this again: The power to rise above your circumstances is available to you at all times. And the best way to that is with peak performance.
