Do you know your core values? Do you act in accordance with them? Do you expect others to act in accordance with your values too? Do you know the values of those around you?

When we understand what we value, life becomes easier to navigate. We start to say YES to the things, places and people that match our values, and NO to everything else.

This is, of course, easier said than done.

Sometimes we make commitments to people and projects before we know whether they fully align with our values or not.

Other times we agree to make a compromise without fully understanding the consequences it might have on our reality.

And every now and then, we’d go on autopilot and forget about our values altogether.

It is what it is” can be a message of surrender and deep trust in the Universe, or of deep pain and disappointment.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR CORE VALUES?

Pick 3 to 5 values that will help you create the life you desire. For example:

  • Kindness, Honesty, Love

  • Generosity, Fun, Adventure, Empathy

  • Creativity, Trust, Optimism, Resilience, Stability

Once you set the pillars of your identity, you can begin to act in true accordance with your authentic self and communicate who you are to the rest of the world with your words and actions.

DO YOU ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR VALUES?

Pause before you respond or make decisions. This will give you the time to remember your values and question whether you’re about to respond or make a choice that is in alignment with your values.

Keep in mind that choices that bring you peace are in alignment with your authentic self.

DO YOU KNOW THE VALUES OF THOSE AROUND YOU?

Communicating your values to your loved ones is as important as getting to know theirs.

When we focus solely on our values, we expect others to act the way we do and get annoyed or disappointed when they don’t. In reality, it’s unrealistic that someone will behave in a way that doesn’t match what they value.

Sometimes we form bonds with people who have different values, which can create tension in the relationships. It is up to you to honour your values first, so that you set the right boundaries in place. When you live in accordance with your values, you create a peaceful life for yourself and can therefore give more of your love, skills and energy to others.
