One of the most challenging lessons to learn is the art of patience.

When we practice patience, we take the needed distance from situations, people or problems to see the big picture. This allows us to make more balanced decisions.

Balance is important not only so that we can work with more consistency, but also so that we can understand our reality with more clarity.

What happens when we’re impatient? We’re more likely to make mistakes.

And while some mistakes are easy to correct, others create a ripple effect throughout our life.

When a major mistake occurs, we end up leaving the main trajectory and entering a detour.

Detours slow us down, but not like patience does.

You see, patience brings order to the chaos, because it creates time and space for us to look within and find the answers that we seek – or it allows us to connect with others that can help us put two and two together.

Detours, however, bring chaos, uncertainty and complications that make it difficult to use our intellect and intuition (at first). Just like entering a dark room, it takes a while for your eyes to adjust to the new setting, so that you can start to navigate what’s going on around you, even if you’ve lived in that room for years.

We start to value patience when we’ve taken one too many unnecessary detours.

Every experience matters, of course. But learning to value your own time means learning to act with patience more often and in doing so you create a habit. After all, mastery comes from repetition!
