Sometimes words fail us when we want to express the depth of our emotions, even to ourselves.

When that happens, there are different tools we can use to β€œunblock” our emotional expression, which in turn helps us grow our emotional intelligence stronger.

Here are 3 examples:

1. MOVEMENT

Physical movement releases any stagnant energy in the body and brings clarity to the mind, so that the logical part of our brain feels more equipped to find the right words to express the intensity of our emotions.

This can be a simple dance in the kitchen, a stretch beside your desk, a run in the park or a proper workout in the gym (the goal is to see through your brain fog).

2. JOURNALING

Writing down thoughts, ideas and memories assists the mind to free space for brand new connections to be made between new experiences and emotions, which in turn helps you be more expressive about what you’re currently feeling.

The more you practice freeing your mind from the job of remembering everything, the more you will be able to analyse and express information in real time (less brain fog periods).

3. CREATING

Channeling our emotions into art or other forms of creating can help us see more clearly, both internally and externally, what we’re going through.

Can you draw what you’re feeling right now?

A simple drawing can reveal the missing piece of your emotional puzzle.

Your DIY projects are another great way to explore the range of emotions you are experiencing. What colours or materials are you drawn to? What are the areas of your life where you are trying to bring order or innovation? Everything’s connected.

The goal of this exercise is to integrate the heart with the mind, so that you are not ignoring parts of yourself as a coping mechanism.

Remember that thoughts and feelings are fleeting, they are not the truth, but they might be pointing to lessons we might have missed or need to revisit that are important for this part of the journey we’re going through right now.

πŸ‘‰πŸ» Don’t worry about making your drawing perfect – it’s about allowing yourself to release, express and create in whatever shape or form comes natural to you at this very moment. Nothing in life is perfect anyway!
