We each have the ability to create.

There are few books as powerful as Elizabeth GIlbert’s “Big Magic” if you need a little reminder about the magic that is around us (and above all, within us).

She says, “Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart. The rest of it will take care of itself.”

When we tune in to what we actually want to create, we move with more joy and inspiration. If the option you’re seeking to find in life is not there yet, perhaps it’s time for you to create it.

In the spirit of being adventurous and playful, let’s make a cocktail together.

THE PREPARATIONS

Can you guess what’s the secret to making a cocktail? Balance! The keyword you can try to run away from as much as you want, and it will always catch up with you.

The way to achieve balance when making a cocktail is to follow the 2:1:1 principle: 2 parts alcohol (your base), 1 part sweet (the flavour), 1 part sour (the aftertaste).

Then add a touch of magic – the finishing detail.

STEP 1: THE BASE

The base sets the tone for your cocktail. It’s the essence of the experience. You’d go for the cocktail because of it. Will you choose something you’re already comfortable with or are you willing to experiment? Are you building something authentic and out of this world, or are you improving a recipe that already exists?

STEP 2: THE FLAVOUR

Once you’ve chosen your foundation, it’s time to customise it. How sweet and uplifting would you like your experience to be? Or would you prefer it to be subtle and refreshing? The point is to enjoy it, so take your time to figure out what you actually need. No need to rush the process, trust your instincts.

STEP 3: THE AFTERTASTE

Every (life) experience has an aftertaste. This is the ultimate point of judgement. Am I likely to repeat this experience? Will I recommend it to a friend? How did this experience make me feel? After all, balance is at the heart of a memorable (life) experience.

FINAL TOUCHES

Your personality shines brightest in the details. Don’t be afraid to get creative and sprinkle on top of your cocktail whatever brings joy to your heart! Remember that the recipe is already within you – you just have to release it.

P.S. HERE’S MY RECIPE

For my (Not So) Old Fashioned, I’d go for:

  • The base: Smoky whiskey

  • The flavour: Chocolate liquor, vanilla syrup

  • The aftertaste: Freshly squeezed orange juice

  • The finishing detail: Mint, dry ice
