We often underestimate our abilities. Whether this has to do with our physical, emotional or mental strength, there’s always room for growth.

By “growth” I mean growing even more comfortably into our full potential.

Growth is not somewhere outside of you.

Sure, books and podcasts can help trigger your memory by giving you insightful data, useful tools and metrics for success. But ultimately, you already have access to the information that is needed for your personal growth. You just have to look within and trust your intuition.

There’s a reason most self-help books start with a variation of this sentence: “You already know all of the information you’re about to read, I am just helping you remember”.

The question is are you ready and willing to look within?

Let’s look at today’s question.

“How can I surprise myself,” you might ask. “I already know everything there is to know about myself.”

To which I’d respond, “Do you actually know everything about yourself, or is your ego keeping you a prisoner in your own comfort zone?”

The moment you stop learning about yourself is the moment you become tied to a version of yourself. But we are not static. We are meant to expand every single day.

To surprise yourself can mean 2 things:

  1. To set aside time to experience the magic of life (self-care)

  2. To make room for new information to flow to you (self-discovery)

Both self-care and self-discovery lead to personal growth, and you can practice them in or out of your comfort zone.

Here’s what they might look like:

  • Self-care in your comfort zone: taking a nap or meditating in your bedroom

  • Self-care out of your comfort zone: joining a yoga class or booking a massage

  • Self-discovery in your comfort zone: reading a self-help guide and journaling about your thoughts and feelings

  • Self-discovery out of your comfort zone: signing up for a marathon or going to therapy

Your personal evolution starts with you.

When your thoughts, actions and feelings are in alignment, everything you do feels right. To get to that point, you need to embrace the unknown and approach life with curiosity.

Once you embrace this beginner’s mindset, you will find a deeply rooted trust that every step you’re taking forward is helping you grow into the best version of yourself.
