Every time we put ourselves in an unfamiliar environment, we trigger parts of our brain that increase our breathing and heart rate – a stimulus that can lead to fear or excitement. What determines which one it’s going to be? Our thoughts.
When we challenge ourselves into entering new situations, we expand our consciousness and in doing so we expand our comfort zone. But first, we experience fear!
Fear is the beating heart along with sweating palms before a big presentation. It’s the feeling of overwhelming tensity when you take a wrong turn in a foreign country. A rising sensation that something might go wrong just before a ride in an amusement park is about to take off.
Whether you do a marathon, go on a solo trip around the globe or deliver a speech in front of a big audience, it’s bound to expand your level of understanding and relating to the world.
A growth mindset is one that priorities activities that will keep you on your toes, so that you keep elevating your ability to shift the state of “fear” into a state of “excitement”. Remember – for the body the experience is the same, it’s your mind that settles on a description for it!
